Overview
Quaintly nicknamed '' k- zoo, ''Kalamazoo college lives up  to its quirky mane by providing a unique liberal arts experience to its students, the college is nestled in the quiet residential area of Kalamazoo, immersed in the rustic, rolling hills of south west Michigan , the city sits mere 35 miles from Lake Michigan and 140 miles from both Detroit and Chicago , proving  a desirable location  for lakeside and metropolitan activities  alike. For those  without the luxury of a vehicle, the college is within walking distance  of the city of Kalamazoo's charming downtown a area, consisting  of abundant shopping, movies, and restaurants. These  nearby amenities are especially valuable   during the harsh Michigan winters, with temperatures averaging in the 30s for three  months of year.

This private, liberal arts college arts college  sits on a 60 acre campus. Such a small size allows the college to commit to  a true  liberal arts philosophy, emphasizing students' complete ownership of their education . The college offers a wide breadth of vigorous majors, focusing strongly on study abroad and a service learning programs, culminating for each a student in a custom senior individualized project. Academic
Kalamazoo College  provides a highly individualized academic program with unique requirement, referred to as the ''  k –plan" .This educational model requires students to explore for four areas of study : liberal arts and sciences, learning through experience, international engagement, and the senior  individualized projects.  the plan begins with three shared passages seminars and one first year seminar, which are general graduation requirements focusing on development of written , oral , and critical thinking skills . After freshman tear, students begin to delve into cultural education with a sophomore seminar, specializing in one of the 27 majors offered at the college and preparing for study abroad. Senior year focuses on integrating the ''k- plan education''  into a focused topic  through a disciplinary or interdisciplinary senior seminar. Strong academic program include boo biology, English, and prelaw.
